A Pillar of Defense in Colorado Springs

Types of sex offenses and sexual violence

Every state, including Colorado, is cracking down on sexual violence, as more and more of these cases are making their way into the public's eye.

Sexual violence comes in many forms, with some people not fully understanding that they could be committing a crime that lands them in hot water with the authorities.

According to the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network, there are many types of sexual violence, some of which are not fully understood. For example, there are many inaccuracies when it comes to rape. The Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network noted the following:

"In about 8 out of 10 rapes, no weapon is used other than physical force. Anyone may be a victim of rape: women, men or children, straight or gay."

Some are under the impression that rape is only a crime if a weapon is used, such as a gun, to force a person to partake in a sexual act. Not only is this not the case, but it is more common for nothing more than physical force to be used.

There are other types of sexual violence outside of rape, including: domestic violence, stalking and sexual harassment.

It is important for everybody to have a solid grasp of sex offenses, ensuring that he or she knows what is against the law. In some cases, a person makes a mistake, not knowing right from wrong, that leads to possible legal consequences.

In the event that a person is charged with a crime related to sexual violence, he or she may want to meet with an attorney to learn more about the charges and his or her rights.
