A Pillar of Defense in Colorado Springs

Tips lead police to man, marijuana, cocaine and cash

According to police officer in Colorado Springs, two tips from anonymous callers led to the arrest of a 27-year-old Florida man. The man is facing charges for prohibited use of a weapon, but is also accused of attempting to traffic marijuana. Investigators think that the man was going to transport the marijuana back to Florida.

The tips lead the police to a Rodeway Inn, where the man was allegedly intoxicated. He also reportedly had a handgun when police located him. A K-9 unit was called to search the vehicle police believed belongs to the man. When the dog indicated a positive hit, there was 3 grams of cocaine, 14.5 pounds of marijuana and $28,000 in cash found.

When you are facing drug possession or trafficking charges, it is important to consider ways to defend yourself. The help of an experienced criminal defense attorney can prove invaluable. He or she will investigate the circumstances of your charges to determine if police violated any of your rights during the investigation or the arrest. All evidence will be reviewed and witnesses may be interviewed. When finished with the investigation, your attorney will have a better idea of how strong of a case the prosecution may have against you.

The penalties for drug trafficking are not insignificant in Colorado. It may be tempting to think that because this state allows for the legal, personal use of marijuana that any amount is legal. That is not the case, and those who are convicted of drug trafficking can face long prison terms and significant fines. Your attorney can provide more information and help you understand your legal rights and options.
