Football coach accused of sex crime for relationship with student

| Dec 23, 2013 | Sex Crimes |

Colorado Springs police have recently arrested a former high school football coach stemming from rumors that he was allegedly having a relationship with a student. Police believe that the 21-year-old was having an intimate relationship with a 15-year-old student. The Colorado Springs coach has been charged with a sex crime resulting from the incident.

According to the report, a school resource officer alerted authorities when the officer heard rumors of an intimate relationship between the assistant football coach and the high school student. It is believed that the individuals met discretely at two separate locations. However, once rumors began to circulate around the school, investigators believe that the student ended the relationship.

Upon further questioning, the coach reportedly admitted to meeting with the student, but he denied that they had sexual intercourse. This was the coach’s first season working as assistant coach at the high school, and he was fired after the season ended. He is currently out on bond, and he is expected to be back in court at the end of this month.

The Colorado Springs former coach has been formally charged with the sex crime of sexual assault on a child. Being registered as a sex offender is a title that potentially follows an offender for the rest of that individual’s life. Nevertheless, the report seems to indicate that the coach is fully cooperating with authorities, and there is no mention that the coach has any prior sex offenses on his record. These are factors that could weigh in the mans favor should a criminal conviction ultimately be secured against him. However, he would gain from gathering information on his legal rights and local court procedures so that he can better prepare his criminal defense regarding the charges.
