Six teenagers from Colorado Springs have been charged with felony sexual assault after a 13-year-old reported an alleged attack.

Of the six charged in the case, only one is a minor at 16 years old. Three are 19 and two are 18. According to the arrest affidavits, the six who were arrested are all brothers or cousins.

The alleged victim in this case told police that she was at the mall when one of the suspects approached her. The two knew each other, so she agreed to go back to his apartment. While there, she played video games and then went into the bathroom. The girl told police that she was dragged from the bathroom and taken to a bedroom.

The girl told detectives that she was repeatedly assaulted by the six teens. Immediately afterwards, the girl went to the Colorado Springs Police Department, where evidence was collected. A sergeant with the Crimes Against Children Unit of the CSPD said, “Typically, we look for what we call DNA evidence or injuries that occur as a result of the sexual assault so the longer we wait, our chances of collecting that type of evidence becomes slimmer.”

The police used social media as a means for the girl to identify the six teens.

An arrest for sexual assault or other sex crimes case can have a significant impact on your reputation. It also carries significant penalties. If you are facing such charges, it is important to build a strong defense. An attorney can help you decide what your legal options are in the case and if a plea deal should be considered.
