Colorado Department Of Transportation Aims To Educate Drivers About Alcohol Metabolization

The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) would keep all drunk or drugged motorists off the road if they could. This goal is the motivation behind the state agency’s “Breathalyze Before You Drive” campaign. CDOT aims to highlight how drivers can avoid driving under the influence (DUI) charges by learning how long it takes the body to metabolize alcohol. CDOT also encourages motorists to take a breathalyzer test to see their blood alcohol content (BAC) before driving to reduce DUI rates as part of this initiative.

How much alcohol does it take to get drunk?

CDOT argues that many state residents don’t have a firm understanding of how little alcohol it takes to render someone too intoxicated to drive. Their research shows that some people only need to consume one or two alcoholic beverages to reach or surpass Colorado’s legal limit of 0.05% for Driving While Ability Impaired (DWAI) charges or 0.08% for DUI ones. State law even allows law enforcement officers to arrest a motorist who has a BAC of less than Colorado’s legal limit if they’re exhibiting sure signs of impairment.

How long does it take to get sober again?

The researchers working on CDOT’s Take Some Time campaign aimed to determine how long it takes to become sober again after consuming even the smallest amount of alcohol. They found that trace amounts of beer can remain identifiable in your system for as long as two hours after drinking it. They noted that the size of the alcoholic beverage and other factors such as gender, body type and weight, fatigue, food intake, and the speed of consumption could all impact how quickly you metabolize alcohol as well.

Avoiding a lifetime of complications stemming from a DUI conviction

CDOT warns that the only way to avoid a DWAI or DWI charges is to ensure that you have a zero BAC before you get behind the wheel of your car. If you don’t, you put yourself at risk for potential arrest, loss of your driver’s, financial resources and freedom. You need to take the initiative and align yourself with a DUI defense attorney who intends to fight for you if you’re facing these severe charges here in Colorado Springs.
